C.H.I.L.L.
C.H.I.L.L. stands for Changing How I Look Learning. It is not a detention, office referral, nor a phone call home! It is a powerful reflection tool where students are asked to put their heads down, close their eyes and mouths, and reflect on their behavior. C.H.I.L.L.s are also not embarrassing and non-confrontational. As a teacher, I do not want to draw attention to poor choices or join a student on an emotional roller coaster. Students know they are required to C.H.I.L.L. when they are given a C.H.I.L.L. card (instead of being called out in class). Use this to your advantage students and refocus!
If issues and distratctions continue in class, students will be asked to do a written reflection (C.H.I.L.L. Paper), then a phone call home/detention, and tfinally a discipline referral, otherwise known as an exit slip.
I want all kids to be successful and stay in class, but I will not ignore one behavior at the cost of other students' learning. I am all about a safe and fun learning atmosphere.
Remember, just C.H.I.L.L.!
